Trophy Chaser works five furlongs for Champagne Stakes

ELMONT, N.Y. – Trophy Chaser worked five furlongs in 59.46 seconds at Gulfstream Park early Friday morning and was scheduled to leave by van early Friday evening for New York, where next Saturday he will run in the Grade 1, $500,000 Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park.
“He had a very good work,” trainer Juan Carlos Avila said Friday. “He’s ready for the race.”
Junior Alvarado will ride Trophy Chaser in the Champagne.
On Sept. 21, Alvarado was injured when unseated by a horse at Belmont Park. However, Alvarado was given the green light to return to race-riding and was named on horses for Wednesday’s card at Belmont.
Trophy Chaser won his maiden by 15 3/4 lengths in the slop at Gulfstream on Aug. 25 and earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 96. He is one of nine horses expected for the Champagne.
Others expected are Achilles Warrior, Aurelius Maximus, Call Paul, Casa Creed, Code of Honor, Complexity, Endorsed, and Sir Truebadour.
