Triskelion catches Beach Heist in Pea Patch Stakes

Triskelion overhauled favored Beach Heist in the final strides for a victory in the $175,000 Pea Patch Stakes for 3-year-old fillies sprinting on the turf on Sunday at Ellis Park.
Triskelion ($8.72) and Cristian Torres, who had an advantageous outside draw in a race with plenty of speed, raced in third and prompted the pace close on the outside early as Beach Heist, who broke from the rail, was pressed by Sweet Sissone and the eventual winner through an opening quarter of 21.59 seconds on the firm turf.
As the group cornered into the stretch, Sweet Sissone began to fade, and Beach Heist spurted clear to a 1 1/2-length lead. But Triskelion was not done, recommitting herself to the chase and getting up by a head. Beach Heist held second by another head over the rallying Just a Minute.
The time for the 5 1/2 furlongs was 1:01.55.
Florida-bred Triskelion, by Leinster, is trained by Rusty Arnold for Ashbrook Farm, Amy Dunne, and Cieran Dunne. Making her stakes debut, she won for the second time in six career starts, and has never been worse than third.
