Great Hot, a Brazilian import who flashed talent when 3rd to top-class 3-year-old filly Zazu in the Grade 1 Lady’s Secret at Santa Anita Oct. 1, validated that form as she prevailed in a cavalry charge to the finish. Content to lag back early she steadily advanced, moved to the rail for the stretch drive, and finished gamely to win a blanket photo. She’s now stakes placed on turf, Grade 1-placed on dirt, a stakes winner routing on Polytrack and now a Grade 2 winner sprinting on Polytrack, so she has all sorts of versatility. Groupie Doll was well back early, came with a strong wide run and just failed to catch the winner. Dr. Diamonds Prize set the pace and hung on gamely for 3rd while drifting out. She did get DQ’d and placed 4th. Mizdirection, the lukewarm favorite, stalked the pace, kept on gamely with a threatening run while wide but had to steady when in tight late and that may have cost her a spot.[bc_video_id:236816:]
