Trio of layoff horses top Sunday allowance
HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – A trio of layoff horses are among the top contenders in a highly competitive allowance that anchors the 10-race Sunday card, which starts at 1:05 p.m. Eastern.
King’s Harlequin has gone unraced since May, while Lashara has been off since June and New York Girl since August. Assuming all are ready to roll, they all show prior form good enough to make them major players in a full field of 12 filly-mare turf milers in the eighth race, a $62,000 second-level race and the second of two allowances on the day.
Race 3 is a $61,000 first-level turf mile, and figures to have Like Clint, Rocket One, and Chanceux as favorites in a field of seven 3-year-olds.
A 40 percent chance of rain is in the local forecast, so the co-features might have to be run at a mile and 40 yards on the Tapeta. Races 5 and 10 also are scheduled for turf.
Race 8 is part of the 20-cent Rainbow 6 (races 5-10), which can be expected to offer a pool of $200,000 or so.
