Trinity Revealed gets up to win Regret Stakes
Trinity Revealed came out on top at the end of a dogged stretch battle to win the $20,000 Regret Stakes on Friday at Hazel Park Raceway, while heavy favorite Scarlet Hour finished last after a troubled start.
Trinity Revealed, a 3-year-old Equality filly, saved ground on the rail in fourth as Valid Offer and Elegant Trefaire battled for the lead heading into the first turn of the six-furlong race. That pair separated from the rest of the field in the early going, setting an opening quarter of 24.12.
Jockey Ricardo Barrios advanced Trinity Revealed into contention onthe backstretch and they moved three wide to the outside of Elegant Trefaire heading into the turn. Valid Offer held tightly to the lead on the rail after a half in 48.46, as she and Trinity Revealed left Elegant Trefaire behind at the top of the stretch.
Trinity Revealed drew even with Valid Offer inside the final sixteenth and won by a neck. Elegant Trefaire finished 5 1/2 lengths behind the runner-up for third.
Scarlet Hour, the 4-5 favorite, broke in the air and angled sharply to the right out of the gate, conceding several lengths to the rest of the field. She was rushed into the first turn to catch up with her rivals, but was quickly spent in her first start since winning the Michigan Sire Stakes last September.
Trinity Revealed ($12) completed the six-furlong race for 3-year-old Michigan-bred fillies in 1:15.11. The Regret was her first stakes victory and her second win in 10 career starts. She has earnings of $31,775.
It was the second stakes win of the meet for owner Marion Gorham and her brother, trainer Robert Gorham, who won the Larkspur Handicap last Friday with Comeflywithanangel, a full sister to Trinity Revealed. Both horses were bred by Guy and Duane Russell, whose broodmare C R Emmaus Road also produced multiple stakes winner Power of Titus.
