VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Trick of the North ($34.40) got up in the last jump Sunday to upset odds-on favorite Teide in the .\nWith Robert Skelly aboard, Trick of the North trailed the field at the six-furlong mark. He made a strong move around the stretch turn to get within 1 1/2 lengths of Teide at the top of the stretch and then got up in the final stride to win by a head. \nDespite sitting well off of moderate fractions of 49.01 seconds and 1:14.20 in the 1 3/8-mile race, Skelly was confident that Trick of the North would be a factor late.\n"They weren't going that fast up front, but it looked like they were a bit keen to me," he said. "My horse always kicks in, and I was feeling pretty good about the way the race was shaping up."\nTeide, who stalked the early pace set by Surprisal, took the lead after six furlongs and then couldn't hold off the late surge by Trick of the North. Krazy Koffee finished third.\nFinal time for the 1 3/8 miles over a track rated good was 2:20.37.\nAn 8-year-old gelding trained by Barbara Heads, Trick of the North was making the 50th start of his career. He earned $66,911 for his owners Aurora Stable.
