Tribhuvan scores front-running upset in Fort Marcy

The Chad Brown-trained favorites Rockemperor and Devamani were expected to dominate Saturday’s Grade 2 Fort Marcy at Belmont, but it was Brown’s front-running longshot Tribhuvan who stole the show in the 1 1/8-mile turf event.
In his first outing in 10 months and debut as a gelding, Tribhuvan darted out to a six-length lead down the backstretch through fractions of 23.55 seconds, 47.89, and 1:11.67 under Eric Cancel.
City Man and Wissahickon raced as a team in the second and third positions most of the way, before City Man took a run at Tribhuvan entering in the stretch. Tribhuvan dug in to win by 1 1/2 lengths in a final time of 1:46.11, while paying $22.40 to win as the outsider in the five-horse field.

Even-money choice Rockemperor rallied belatedly for third, as Devamani finished fourth over the fading Wissahickon.
A French-bred 5-year-old gelding by Toronado, Tribhuvan banked $110,000 of the $194,000 purse for the partnership of Michael Dubb, Madaket Stables, Wonder Stables, and Michael Caruso.
