ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Tribal Belle led throughout Saturday's at Woodbine, under a clever ride from Jim McAleney. McAleney guided Tribal Belle well off the dead rail after breaking from post 1, and they set slow fractions in the seven-furlong sprint for fillies and mares. Verdana Bold came inside the leader at the quarter pole, but Tribal Belle put that one away early in the stretch and then held off favored Simply Splendid to win by a neck, in a time of 1:22.44. Exotic Bloom finished another four lengths back in third in the eight-horse field. Amazing was scratched. "We did get some really comfortable splits," said McAleney. "It wasn't an absolute to go to the lead. I thought if there was anybody on the outside who wanted to go, this filly could sit off them." Tribal Belle ($6.70) earned $90,000 in her first stakes score for Canvasback Farm and trainer Terry Jordan.
