Trial win points out Rdd Lajollanfastdash in Mardi Gras Futurity
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLEAt first glance, there appears to be little separating the field for the Grade 2, $273,054 Mardi Gras Futurity for Quarter Horses on Saturday at Louisiana Downs. Most of the 2-year-olds making up the 10-horse stakes won their debuts during trial races in February.
But upon closer inspection, Rdd Lajollanfastdash looks like a standout. He set the fastest qualifying time for the 300-yard finale when he won his trial in 15.53 seconds on Feb. 20 at Louisiana Downs. The second-fastest qualifier, Streakin Pyc, won his head by a head in 15.87.
Rdd Lajollanfastdash is further appealing for the manner in which he won his trial. He pulled away by 3 1/4 lengths, the largest win margin of those running back Saturday. Rdd Lajollanfastdash also has an age edge on a number of his rivals as he is a January foal, and he drew a favorable post for the Mardi Gras Futurity in gate 10.
Also set to start is Jess a Little Star, a filly who won her trial by a head in 15.89.
The race Saturday will share a program with the $86,190 Mardi Gras Derby. The 400-yard race is led by Jess a Saint, winner of last year’s Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association Sale Futurity at Evangeline Downs.
