Trev tries to stretch amazing streak at age 10

The old man is on fire.
Trev will be looking to win his sixth straight race Friday at Gulfstream Park, but to do so the 10-year-old will have to hold off a number of young guns.
His chief foes in the eight-horse first-level allowance sprint for Florida-breds, which carries a $16,000 claiming option, include the 4-year-olds Unpublished, Mozo Bello, and Arrivederla, and the 3-year-olds Free Flay and Nicholas Rose.
The card also includes a starter allowance that carries a $16,000 claiming option at five furlongs on turf. The leading contenders appear to be Tropicat, who leaves the statebred ranks but owns the field’s best last-race Beyer Speed Figure, and Joyful Heart, a Grade 3-placed runner who is out of the multiple stakes-winning mare Blue Heart.

Trev’s race goes as the featured eighth. He’s won his last five starts by a combined margin of 27 1/4 lengths in a streak that began in a $12,500 claiming sprint in April 2019 at Gulfstream. The horse went 4 for 6 last year and won his lone start this year, taking a first-level allowance sprint that carried an optional $25,000 claiming price May 10 at Gulfstream.
Trev earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 82, the best last-race number in the field Friday. He is looking for his 16th career win. He has made 41 starts and earned $352,749.
“I’ve been around the horse for years,” said trainer Georgina Baxter. “He’s a barn pet.”
Trev is a son of Exclusive Quality who races for the Asterace Group. He will break from post 8 in the six-furlong race under apprentice Joseph Trejos.
Trev has speed and could show the way on the move from five-eighths of a mile to six furlongs. He also could track some of the speed to his inside. Those who figure to be prominent include Northern, who starts from the rail, and Arrivederla, who is coming off a win against $12,500 claiming rivals Aug. 7 at Gulfstream. Arrivederla is a half-brother to multiple stakes winner Matt King Coal, who earned more than $600,000.
Nicholas Rose is a son of Fort Larned making his first start against winners following a sharp maiden special weight score Aug. 30 at Gulfstream. He covered six furlongs in 1:10.13. Nicholas Rose is out of the mare Rosebud’s Ridge, a winner of the Susan’s Girl division of the Florida Sire Stakes. Victor LeBron has the mount from post 3 for trainer Marcial Navarro.
