SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Aidan O’Brien, still in search of his first win at Saratoga, will send out Breeders’ Cup Turf runner-up Broome against nine others in Saturday’s Grade 1, $750,000 Sword Dancer, one of four Grade 1 stakes on the undercard of the Grade 1, $1.25 million Travers Stakes. O’Brien, one of the most accomplished trainers in the world, is 0 for 11 in Saratoga with Japan’s neck loss to Gufo in last year’s Sword Dancer among his best finishes. Broome, a six-time Group stakes winner in Europe, was the runner-up to Yibir in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Turf at Del Mar. In that race, he made an eye-catching move to go from 12 lengths back to 1 1/4 lengths in front in a little more than a quarter-mile. In three starts this year, Broome finished fifth in the Group 1 Tattersalls Cup in May, won the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, and was fourth, beaten 12 lengths by Pyledriver in the Group 1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot on July 22. “We’ve been very happy with him this year, everything he’s done this year has been very good, even his last race he finished fourth it was still a good run,” O’Brien said. “I think the favorite took him on and it was a very strongly run race but I think considering he ran a very good race.” :: DRF's Saratoga headquarters – Stakes schedule, previews, recaps, past performances, and more Ryan Moore, aboard for four of Broome’s six group stakes victories, will ride Broome from post 3 on Saturday.
