Lauren King After splitting horses, Transient rallied to a victory in Saturday’s Powder Break at Gulfstream, paying $4.40 for the win.

Transient burst to the lead in the later stages en route to a two-length win over Chick’s Shadow in the $75,000 Powder Break on Saturday at Gulfstream Park. It was another 1 3/4 lengths back in third to To Thyself B True.

The race was for fillies and mares on Tapeta. It was run over one-mile and 70 yards.

Transient ($4.40) was cutting back in distance from 1 1/2 miles for her first start since April and had one horse beat early as Empress Ellie and Midnight Bella took the field through an opening quarter in 24.79 seconds for the opening quarter and 48.54 for the half-mile.

“She settled really nice,” winning rider Tyler Conner told publicity at Gulfstream. “I was a little worried I was that far back, but when I asked her to do anything, she responded really well. The trip opened up really great.”

Saffie Joseph Jr. trains Transient for e Five Racing Thoroughbreds. The daughter of Sea the Stars was winning her first stakes after placing in three graded stakes in four graded appearances leading up to the Powder Break.

Transient has now won 3 of 14 starts for earnings of $246,589.
