Coady Photography Lil Rich Girl, ridden by Kelsi Purcell for trainer Ken Danyluk, wins the Kerry Danyluk Memorial Stakes for Arabians.

Trainer Ken Danyluk won an Arapahoe Park race named in honor of his late son, United States Army Specialist Kerry Danyluk, on Friday at the Aurora, Colo., track. Kerry Danyluk died April 15 from injuries he sustained serving in Afghanistan. He was 27 and has been awarded, among other honors, the Purple Heart, according to report in Military Times.

Lil Rich Girl ($5.20) led throughout the Kerry Danyluk Memorial Stakes, winning the one-mile race for Arabians by a neck. Kelsi Purcell was aboard. The winner’s circle presentation honored Danyluk and his family, and included members of the U.S. Marine Corp., Combat Logistics Battalion 453 from Buckley, Colo.

Ken Danyluk also sent out the third-place finisher in the race, Tm Maddamee.
