Trainer Mike Lauer won his 1,000th race Saturday night at Indiana Grand.
Lauer, who has started 7,688 runners, hit the milestone when Miracles Take Time won the third race. Miracles Take Time was an appropriate representative of Lauer’s accomplishment. The filly was bred by Lauer and his wife, Penny, and is owned by Penny Lauer. The Lauers keep 15 broodmares on a farm in Kentucky and have been active Indiana breeders and racers for years.
Lauer’s first starter as a trainer came way back in 1976, but he put together his best two seasons, both in terms of wins and purse earnings, in 2016 and 2017.
