HENDERSON, Ky. – Eddie Kenneally notched the 1,000th victory of his training career when He’s Pretty Lucky prevailed by a head in the fifth race Saturday at Ellis Park.

Kenneally, a 55-year-old native of Ireland, saddled his first winner in December 1993 and has gone on to win 35 graded stakes, including six Grade 1s.

“This is a huge honor,” Kenneally said. “It took a lot of good people behind me through the years, both the owners and employees. You can’t do anything without good help and good horses.”

Kenneally had been stuck on 999 wins for nearly three weeks before He’s Pretty Lucky, ridden by Brian Hernandez Jr., engaged with favored Futuro from the start of the one-mile dirt race for $10,000 maiden-claimers, finally putting that rival away before holding off late-running Stone Slinger. He’s Pretty Lucky, a 3-year-old colt owned in partnership by Kenneally and Shaun McCarthy, paid $9.
