Trainer Garcea dies at 61

Randy Goulding|Oct 11, 2008

Trainer Eric Garcea died last week following a long battle with cancer. Garcea, 61, was based at Hastings for most of his career before he moved to Woodbine a few years ago.

Born in Italy, Garcea was noted for his exceptional work with marathon horses. One of the horses he will be remembered for is Professor Moriarty. Garcea claimed Professor Moriarty for $16,000 and under his care he won four races and placed in a number of stakes, including the Grade 3 Premiers in 1996.

Garcea is survived by his wife Arlene and daughter Cassie.

There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. on Monday at the Holy Cross Church in Burnaby, B.C., which is located at 1450 Delta Ave.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Cross.
