Trainer Fincher notches stakes double

Trainer Todd Fincher swept both stakes at Ruidoso Downs on Sunday, when Delbert Too led a trifecta for the barn in the $134,667 Rio Grande Senor Thoroughbred Futurity and Comic Hot Toddy impressed in the $133,828 Rio Grande Senorita Thoroughbred Futurity.
The races were for 2-year-olds bred in New Mexico.
Comic Hot Toddy ($7.80) dueled through fractions of 21.75 seconds and 44.50 before going on to cover 5 1/2 furlongs on a fast track in 1:03.97. She won by five lengths over Atill I Chime. It was another 2 3/4 lengths back to Bully Baby in third.
Shane Laviolette was aboard the winner for breeder and owner Helen Nave.

Comic Hot Toddy, a daughter of Indian Firewater, earned $66,914. The filly’s dam, Comicsperfectstorm, is a past winner of the Rio Grande Senorita Futurity.
Delbert Too ($10.80) won his maiden in the Rio Grande Senor. He was content to stalk the pace in fourth, sitting off contested fractions of 21.88 seconds for the opening quarter and 44.63 for the half-mile. In the stretch, he moved past his rivals and covered 5 1/2 furlongs on a fast track in 1:04.20.
There was an inquiry after the race, but the stewards made no change to the order of finish.
Delbert Too won by three-quarters of a length over stablemate Digger’s Gold, while it was another three-quarters of a length back to another stablemate, Cheese Tray, in third.
The trifecta paid $231.80.
Alfredo Juarez Jr. rode Delbert Too for the partnership of B4 Farms, Lee Owens, and Dale Alan Doby. The horse, by Marking, earned $67,334.
