Trainer Colebrook has eye-popping ROI

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Ben Colebrook doesn’t have anything against winning with logical horses, but the results from his first 19 starts at the Keeneland fall meet argue otherwise.
Colebrook’s $10.22 return on investment for every $2 win bet was highest among all trainers (minimum six starts) through the first 10 cards of this 17-day meet and stems from three winners that paid hefty mutuels – Knicks Go ($142) in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Futurity on opening weekend, followed by K Choice ($26) and Examiner ($26.20) on Thursday.
Colebrook plans to have three starters in the upcoming Breeders’ Cup at Churchill. Besides Knicks Go in the Juvenile and Mr. Crow in the Sprint, he will pre-enter Limousine Liberal in both the Dirt Mile and Sprint, with a lean toward the Sprint.
Churchill stakes adjustments
With the Breeders’ Cup leading to a couple of tweaks in the stakes schedule to start off the upcoming Churchill Downs fall meet, the Rags to Riches and the restricted Spendthrift Sire Stakes are the only two stakes on the Stars of Tomorrow card that opens the meet Oct. 28.
The Street Sense, normally an opening-day co-feature, has been shifted to Nov. 2 and is one of two non-Breeders’ Cup stakes (with the Marathon) on that undercard. The two supporting stakes on the Nov. 3 Breeders’ Cup undercard are the Chilukki and the new Cherokee Run for 3-year-olds.
◗ Bell’s the One, a sharp allowance winner here Wednesday, probably won’t make her next start until the $75,000 Letellier Memorial, a six-furlong race Dec. 22 at Fair Grounds, trainer Neil Pessin said. A 2-year-old filly by Majesticperfection, Bell’s the One is unbeaten in two starts for the Lothenbach Stables.
◗ Besides the Grade 3 Dowager, three allowances (races 4, 6, 7) with a minimum purse of $71,000 also are on tap for Sunday at Keeneland. Sunday is Heroes Day, which honors members of the military and first responders with free admission and seating and special activities.
