Trainer Cathal "Cal" Lynch earned his 1,000th lifetime victory when Mosler Time grabbed Saturday's finale at Laurel Park. Ridden by Carlos Lopez, 4-year-old Mosler Time added blinkers for his second lifetime start, settled off the early leaders, commenced an outside bid on the turn, then drew away from a group of $30,000 maiden claimers at six furlongs on fast going. Lynch, 49, came to the United States in 1996 from Northern Ireland, and saddled his first winner, Aneissa Chocolate, at Garden State Park on April 11, 1997. His first stakes-winner, Holiest Punch, won the Bold Josh Handicap at the Meadowlands in 2001. Lynch trained Javerre to take the Grade 3 General George Handicap at Laurel in 2013. He conditioned El Areeb to win the Grade 3 Jerome and Grade 3 Withers, both at Aqueduct, in 2017. Lynch's horses have amassed over $1 million in earnings each year since 2008 with his best season ($2,307,889) coming in 2022. Overall, Lynch's horses have earned over $30.7 million. It's a family affair for Lynch as younger brother, Feargal, is an accomplished rider based in the Mid-Atlantic region. Sons Charlie and Anthony have trained winners in the United States while Cal's wife, Daniela, serves as the stable's bookkeeper. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
