Trainer appeals 10-year ban

Owner/trainer Ken Parsley has lodged an appeal of a recent Ontario Racing Commission notice which included a 10-year suspension and a $100,000 fine.

A commission investigation found that Parsley had acquired several illegal drugs and banned medications, including erythropoietin, or EPO, which boosts the production of red blood cells.

None of Parsley's horses has tested positive for any banned substance.

Darla Wright, legal secretary for the racing commission, said she hopes to be able to set a date for Parsley's hearing early next month.
