Trainer Adolfo Macias suspended 90 days after barn search
Trainer Adolfo Macias, who is based in Kentucky, has been suspended 90 days after a search of his barn at a Central Kentucky training center, according to a ruling issued by Kentucky stewards.
Macias, who has three wins from 81 starts this year, waived his right for a formal hearing on the suspension, which will begin Dec. 1 and run through Feb. 28.
The ruling says that the search turned up “injectable medications, hypodermic syringes, and needles.” It is illegal for trainers to possess hypodermic needles and controlled substances.
The search was conducted July 28, according to the ruling, 19 days after a horse trained by Macias, Enraged, won a maiden-claiming race at Ellis Park.
According to a separate ruling, Enraged tested positive for dexamethasone, a regulated anti-inflammatory medication, following the race. Enraged was disqualified and Macias was fined $500.
Macias has started 1,185 horses since beginning his training career in 2005, with a total of 127 wins and $1.9 million in purse earnings.
