Touchuponastar earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 108 for his 10-length victory in the $100,000 Delta Downs Mile on Saturday night. He won the 15th stakes race of his career as he tracked the pace, overtook the leader, and went on to win in hand. Touchuponastar also won the Delta Downs Mile in 2023. The card Saturday included the $100,000 Treasure Chest and Norah G was a two-length winner of the race for fillies and mares. The stakes were both for open company, but the winners were each bred in Louisiana. Touchuponastar ($2.10) tracked The Donegal Clan through an opening quarter in 23.47 seconds, a half-mile in 47.21, and six furlongs in 1:11.45 before sailing home. He covered the distance on a track rated fast in 1:36.94. The time was .05 off the track record, according to a press release from Delta. The lofty Beyer earned Saturday night by Touchuponastar is the second-highest of his career. He put up a 109 when he won the Grade 2 New Orleans Classic in March at Fair Grounds. Touchuponastar could be headed back to Fair Grounds for next month’s Louisiana Champions Day Classic. He’s won the race each of the last three years and his owner, Jake Delhomme, said last month a goal is to bid for a fourth win in the race. Touchuponastar came into the Delta Mile off a track-record performance in the $100,000 Gold Cup on Oct. 11 at Delta. He covered the seven furlongs run around two turns in 1:24.27 and earned a Beyer of 103. Touchuponastar is a 6-year-old son of Star Guitar who has now won 18 of 25 starts for earnings of $1,580,000. He ranks fourth on the list of all-time leading earners among Louisiana-breds. Cajun Mitole finished second in the Delta Mile, while it was another 1 3/4 lengths back in third to The Donegal Clan. Norah G ($19.80) rallied to win the Treasure Chest, also run at a mile, in 1:40.03. She earned a Beyer of 77.  Floating Beauty was second, while it was a head back in third to Wild Bout Hilary. Marcelino Pedroza Jr. was aboard Norah G for trainer Patricia West. Thomas Galvin bred and owns the daughter of Fast Anna who has now won 8 of 23 starts for earnings of $407.996.
