Touchuponastar ran his Delta Downs record to 5 for 5 with his win in the $150,000 Louisiana Premier Night Championship on Feb. 3 to cap an outstanding run at the meet that closes Feb. 24.
Touchuponastar earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 101, the highest number of the current stand in which he owns the top three Beyers. Touchuponastar earned a 97 Beyer for his win in the Oct. 6 Gold Cup and a 95 for his victory in the Nov. 3 Delta Downs Mile.
“That Delta Mile, to me, that’s been his most impressive race,” said Jake Delhomme, the retired NFL quarterback who races Touchuponastar as Set-Hut. “I thought being pressed by Five Star General – those fractions and that type of field – to win with a little something left was pretty encouraging.”
The Delta Mile is part of a streak of four stakes races Touchuponastar has won in his last four starts, in a run that includes the Louisiana Champions Day Classic at Fair Grounds. He’s bound to return to New Orleans for his next start. Delhomme said Touchuponastar is being pointed toward the $100,000 Star Guitar, a 1 1/16-mile race for Louisiana-breds on March 24.
“He came out of the last race fantastic,” Delhomme said of the horse trained by his brother, Jeff Delhomme.
