Top Decile, West Coast Belle to regroup
Nothing appears to be amiss with Top Decile, who finished sixth as the even-money favorite in the Silverbulletday Stakes, or with West Coast Belle, who was fourth at odds of 2-1 in that race.
Top Decile, the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies runner-up, broke from post 9 and was carried very wide on the first turn, but that trouble alone couldn’t totally explain her flat performance.
“She’s fine; scoped good, looked like her normal self this morning,” trainer Al Stall said Sunday morning. “We’re looking forward. I’m just going to watch for three or four days and see if she’s okay.”
West Coast Belle was unusually eager early in the race, and her stretch run lacked zip.
“I was very surprised, since she was training great,” trainer Wayne Catalano said. “That isn’t her, being antsy like that.”
Catalano said West Coast Belle was unlikely to run in the Rachel Alexandra Stakes on Feb. 21 and probably would be pointed to the Fair Grounds Oaks on March 28.
