Top contenders draw outside in Intercontinental

A field of 14 fillies and mares was entered Sunday forThursday’s $150,000 Intercontinental Stakes at Belmont Park. The race is scheduled for seven furlongs on turf and many of the top contenders drew the outside posts.
Marbre Rose, who won her first two starts in this country before running sixth in the Honey Fox, drew post 11. Shrinking Violet, who won the Grade 2 Monrovia at Santa Anita in January, drew post 12. Radiator, a sharp winner two back at Keeneland only to disappoint in the Grade 3 Beaugay, is in post 13. Dauphine Russe, third in the License Fee Stakes last out, is parked in 14.
Other contenders drew only slightly better posts, including Distorted Beauty (9) and Zindaya (post 10).
Also Thursday is the $250,000 Astoria Stakes for juvenile fillies, topped by the Southern California shipper Decked Out, trained by Keith Desormeaux. She won her debut by 3 1/2 lengths at Santa Anita on May 7.
