Too Many Egbert's displays will to win in Vice Regent

ETOBICOKE, Ontario — Too Many Egbert’s won his first stakes Saturday at Woodbine in the $125,000 Vice Regent, after turning back a stern challenge from Man Cave in the final furlong.
Flashy Margaritta set a fast pace in the one-mile turf route, with Spin the King in close proximity. Too Many Egbert’s ($21.50) raced in fourth on the outside on the turn, and then hit the front in midstretch before holding on to prevail by three-quarters of a length in 1:34.75.
David Moran rode Too Many Egbert’s, who banked $75,000 for owner/trainer Paul Buttigieg.
“He jumped out a little sharp,” Moran said. “But once I got him back a couple of lengths, he spit it right out. When [Man Cave] came to me the last eighth, he just dug in and finished up really strong. He’s learning with every race.”
Lukewarm favorite Spadina Road rallied belatedly on the outside for third, while Flashy Margaritta faded to fourth in the eight-horse field.
