OCEANPORT, N.J. - Tonight's Wager uncorked a powerful rally around the final turn and drew away to a 4 1/2-length win Sunday afternoon in the $60,000 at Monmouth Park.

Ridden by Dale Beckner, Tonight's Wager posted her 26th win in 39 career starts.

The 5-year-old mare was a dominant force in Puerto Rico before arriving in the U.S. last fall. The Monmouth Beach, at 1 1/16 miles for fillies and mares, was her second win in six starts since joining the Bill Mott barn.

"Bill is just starting to find her sort of thing," said assistant trainer Tanya Fisher. "We all hope she can step up. We'll see what Mr. Mott thinks."

The Monmouth Beach could be a sign of good things to come.

Tonight's Wager settled last in the field of nine as Nash's Prospect, Vikki Slew and Pocus Hocus took turns holding the lead.

Beckner, following instructions, bided his time.

"They told me to let her settle early and just make a run," said Beckner. "Once she got to the outside, she made her move. I'd never been on her before, but they told me she'd make a good move and they were right."

Tonight's Wager picked off rivals on the turn and hit the top of the lane with a full head of steam.

"She always likes to sit off the leaders and make one run," Fisher said. "She's always a long way from the lead. We told the jock to not be surprised if you're 10 or 12 lengths back. Play it calm and she'll come running for you."

Tonight's Wager paid $9.40 to win as she was clocked in 1:43.54 on the fast track. Annatoga was second with Dance the Slew third.
