Toner turf horses will try stakes again
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLE
ELMONT, N.Y. – Time and Motion and Hunter O’Riley were back on the work tab Sunday at Belmont Park for trainer Jimmy Toner, with both preparing for fall stakes.
Time and Motion, winless in four starts this year, worked five furlongs in 1:01.34 over Belmont Park’s turf course. She is being pointed to the Grade 3, $200,000 Athenia on Oct. 28 at Belmont. Time and Motion is coming out of a fourth-place finish behind Off Limits in the Grade 3 Noble Damsel.
Toner said he would have liked to have seen Time and Motion taken farther back off the pace that day than she was by jockey Jose Lezcano.
Toner said how Time and Motion fares in the Athenia could determine her future.
“Hopefully, she runs well enough and we can keep her going,” Toner said.
Meanwhile, Hunter O’Riley worked a half-mile in 50.54 seconds Sunday. It was his first work in a month.
Toner explained that Hunter O’Riley, winner of the Grade 2 Bowling Green and fourth in the Grade 1 Sword Dancer at Saratoga, was bothered by a quarter crack that kept him from running in the Grade 1 Joe Hirsch.
Hunter O’Riley is now pointing to the Grade 3, $200,000 Red Smith on Nov. 11 at Aqueduct.
