CYPRESS, Calif. - Overlooked at 11-1, Toby Sis scored an upset win in a roughly run $1.9 million Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity for 2-year-old Quarter Horses on Sunday evening.

Toby Sis, ridden by Francisco Calderon, prevailed by a head over Aj Remember Me in the track’s richest race of the year. Starting from post 2, Toby Sis ($25.20) was away well, and closed from approximately a half-length off the lead in the first 100 yards to win narrowly, finishing 400 yards in 19.55 seconds.

Aj Remember Me (28-1) finished a head in front of 6-1 Jess Im Worth It, who was disqualified from third and placed ninth for drifting to the inside from the outside post in a field of 10 in the final 100 yards.

With the disqualification, 22-1 Hi Octane was promoted to third. Political Twist, the 9-10 favorite, had a rough trip and finished eighth before being promoted to seventh.

Political Twist, who won the $1 million Ruidoso Futurity in June, and was third in the $3 million All American Futurity in Albuquerque in September, was bumped and lost position when Jess Im Worth It drifted in.

Enforce, the 5-2 second choice, finished sixth in the original order of finish and was promoted to fifth. Enforce was jostled in the final 100 yards.

Toby Sis races for Sam Valeriano and trainer Jesus Nunez. One of two fillies in the Los Alamitos Two Million field, Toby Sis was bought privately earlier this fall from Los Alamitos track owner Ed Allred.

In her first start for Nunez, Toby Sis won a division of the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity trials on Nov. 23, setting the third-fastest qualifying time. She was the fourth choice in the betting.

Nunez said Toby Sis will be pointed for the Los Alamitos Oaks for 3-year-old fillies at 400 yards, which is typically run in early spring.
