Toby Sis is an undefeated 2-year-old Quarter Horse filly who needs more wins to equal the achievements of her stakes-winning older brother London Toby. London Toby, 7, has won 10 of 25 starts and earned $357,489. Toby Sis has won three races and can gain significant prize money with a win in Sunday’s $260,000 Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Association Breeders Futurity at Los Alamitos. A win is within reach for Toby Sis, who is trained by Scott Willoughby for owner and breeder Ed Allred, who also owns Los Alamitos. Toby Sis set the fastest qualifying time for the PCQHRA Breeders Futurity on Aug. 24, running 350 yards in 17.72 seconds in her first start in three months. She won the trial by 1 1/4 lengths, the widest margin in seven trials. In the spring, Toby Sis won a 300-yard maiden race and a division of the Ed Burke Million Futurity trials, but was not quick enough to gain a berth in the final. :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing! One of five fillies in the field, she is one of five trial race winners to advance to the final. Cowboy Country 123 won his third consecutive start with a trial win in 17.82, beating only four rivals after two runners were scratched at the gate. Cowboy Country 123, trained by Jose Flores, was beaten twice in May but has a perfect record since then. Toby Sis and Cowboy Country 123 will start in stakes for the first time in the PCQHRA Breeders Futurity. Trial race winner Fancy Upp (17.87) and Doodah Cartel, who was third in the trials behind Cowboy Country 123, have stakes experience. Fancy Upp, trained by Cesar DeAlba, was third in the $255,000 Governor’s Cup Futurity on July 26. Doodah Cartel was fourth by a length in the $1 million Ed Burke Million Futurity on June 15. Trainer Paul Jones starts Doodah Cartel and The Lady Is a Vamp. The Lady is a Vamp, a trial race winner in 17.78, has a unique race record with two first-place finishes in maiden races. She won her debut in a maiden race at 300 yards on April 27 but was disqualified when it was later realized that her listed foaling date at the time was May 3, 2023. The filly’s official documents have since been amended to reflect a foaling date of April 16, 2023. Jones said at the time of the disqualification that owner Parsons Ranch may have mistakenly logged a May foaling date. The Lady Is a Vamp won a maiden race on June 29. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
