Tiz a Slam scores repeat in Nijinsky Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – The favored Tiz a Slam outran the other speed and never looked back to take the Grade 2 Nijinsky Stakes for the second year in a row under Steven Bahen at Woodbine on Sunday.
Tiz a Slam ($4.10) got the lead to himself as they went up the hill not long after the beginning of the 1 1/2-mile turf marathon. He set a moderate pace, with Bourbon Resolution and Arthur Kitt tracking him until the stretch.
The Kevin Attard-trained stablemates Sir Sahib and Pumpkin Rumble both rallied down the center of the course in the stretch, but Tiz a Slam won comfortably by 4 1/4 lengths in a hand-timed final clocking of 2:24.45 over the firm ground.

Sir Sahib beat out Pumpkin Rumble by 1 1/4 lengths for second. Dark Templar, Avie’s Mesa, Arthur Kitt, and Bourbon Resolution completed the order of finish.
It was the third consecutive graded stakes score for Tiz a Slam, who earned $126,000 of the $197,050 purse for Chiefswood Stable.
Trainer Roger Attfield said the massive son of Tiznow is on target for a local fall campaign that will have the 5-year-old contest the Grade 1 Northern Dancer Turf and the Grade 1 Canadian International for the second year in a row.
“He’s doing really well,” said Attfield. “He’s a big, happy horse now. It’s taken him a long time to reach total maturity. We’ve looked after him really well, and he’s sound.”
