Tiz Elemental scores at Santa Anita
ARCADIA, Calif. - Tiz Elemental returned from a 10-month layoff to win Sundays $109,300 Honest Lady Stakes for female sprinters at Santa Anita, her first stakes victory in open company. Seventh early, Tiz Elemental rallied wide through the stretch to reach the finish three-quarters of a length in front of Glorified, the 5-2 favorite who was last of eight for much of the race. The late rallies by the first two finishers were reflective of the prevailing style on Sundays nine-race program.
Tiz Elemental ($10) ran six furlongs in 1:11.09 over a track that played slow throughout the day. Ridden by Victor Espinoza, Tiz Elemental was sixth with a furlong remaining. Overly Tempting, who set an early pace of 22.03 and 46.05 seconds, faded to finish seventh.
Tiz Elemental has won 4 of 6 starts and $303,260. A 4-year-old California-bred filly by Cees Tizzy, Tiz Elemental is owned by breeder Warren Williamson and trained by Carla Gaines. The filly won the Melair Stakes for state-bred 3-year-old fillies at Hollywood Park last April, but emerged from that race with a bone chip in a knee.
