Tiz an Edventure finds first stakes triumph in Miss America

A clean trip through the stretch helped the former claimer Tiz an Edventure win the first stakes of her career in Sunday’s $67,800 Miss America Stakes for fillies and mares at Golden Gate Fields, the top race on the final day of the track’s autumn meeting.
Tiz an Edventure ($7.40) rallied wide to win by 1 3/4 lengths over an unlucky Natural Colour, who raced behind horses at a pivotal point entering the stretch and closed some ground on the inside through the final furlong to finish second as the 9-5 favorite.
Clockstrikestwelve (20-1) overcame a slow start to finish third in the race at 1 1/16 miles on the synthetic main track, a head behind Natural Colour. Tiz an Edventure, ridden by Frank Alvarado, was timed in 1:44.62 and earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 82.
Shezaghost finished fourth, followed by Northwest Factor, La Vikina, Sugar Fix, Strike At Dawn, Cowboys Daughter and Taranta. La Reine’s Legacy was withdrawn earlier on Sunday.

Tiz an Edventure, a 4-year-old filly by Tiznow, has won 9 of 17 starts and earned $178,300.
Co-owned by Randy Marriott and trainer Jack Steiner, Tiz an Edventure was claimed for $25,000 at Golden Gate Fields in April, and has since won 6 of 7 starts and earned $106,750. Her only loss since being claimed was a fourth behind Natural Colour in the Golden Gate Turf Distaff in September.
Shezaghost set early fractions of 24.02 seconds for the opening quarter-mile and 48.23 for the half-mile, but faded from contention in the final furlong.
Golden Gate Fields resumes racing on Dec. 26, the opening day of a winter-spring meeting through June 11.
