Tiz Breathtaking looks to make championship case in Princess Elizabeth

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Tiz Breathtaking will look to record her third consecutive stakes victory in Sunday’s $225,000 Princess Elizabeth Stakes for Canadian-bred 2-year-old fillies over 1 1/16-miles on Tapeta at Woodbine.
A win in the Princess Elizabeth would only strengthen Tiz Breathtaking’s case for Canadian champion 2-year-old filly this season, but the end-of-season voting might already be decided if My Gal Betty has a positive result in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf on Friday at Churchill Downs. Tiz Breathtaking and My Gal Betty are the two leading contenders in the Canadian 2-year-old filly division this season. Tiz Breathtaking’s trainer, Mike Doyle, said he will be cheering on My Gal Betty, trainer Roger Attfield, and owner William Werner in the Breeders’ Cup.
“I’m rooting for Roger and Bill,” he said. “We’re all pals . . . I’m hoping they can win the Breeders’ Cup. If they do, that’s the end of that program. If they don’t and we can win, it opens it up for us maybe to have a chance.”
Tiz Breathtaking is coming into the Princess Elizabeth off back-to-back victories in the Shady Well Stakes on Aug. 4 and the Grade 3 Mazarine Stakes on Oct. 6. The Windhaven Farms homebred was well off of the pace in the Mazarine under jockey Eurico Da Silva before rallying in the stretch to defeat Carnival Colors by a head.
“She ran great,” Doyle said. “It was obvious to anybody watching she had a lot to do turning for home. I think she was pretty lucky to get there.”
