Tiz Breathtaking by a head in Mazarine Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Tiz Breathtaking made quite a splash in her first start around two turns in Saturday’s Grade 3 Mazarine Stakes, prevailing in a three-way win photo in the 1 1/16-mile route for 2-year-old fillies.
Tiz Breathtaking ($4.10) trailed along the backstretch as Jolie Bay set fractions of 24.82 and 50.23 seconds. She began to mount a very wide rally at the quarter pole, as Carnival Colors and Comic Kitten also began to make their way into contention.
Tiz Breathtaking came on strongly in the final furlong and got home on top by a head over Carnival Colors, who nosed out Comic Kitten for second in the seven-horse field. The final time was 1:45.28.
Eurico Da Silva rode Tiz Breathtaking, who was the third winner on the card for trainer Mike Doyle.
“When they broke, it looked like there was going to be nice pace, but then everybody slowed down,” Da Silva said. “The pace was very slow. I had a lot of faith in this filly. When you move, she sprints. When I moved in the turn, she just broke from there. I was impressed with the way she ran so relaxed. She’s a very smart filly.”
By Tiznow, Tiz Breathtaking earned $90,000 of the $141,500 purse for Windhaven Farms.
Doyle said Tiz Breathtaking probably will start next in the $225,000 Princess Elizabeth Stakes for Canadian-breds here Nov. 4.
