Tips for Wednesday's SA pick 6

Jay Privman|Jan 02, 2002

ARCADIA, Calif. - Snow Ridge's 18-1 upset victory in Tuesday's El Conejo Handicap helped key a pick six carryover into Wednesday's card of $137,950.67. Here are some thoughts on the pick six, which begins in the third.

3rd race - Most of the races have several contenders of seemingly similar ability, this being a prime example. THE BUGGY WHIP and RAMPANT CONTROL both ran well at this level during the Oak Tree meeting. FLOATING MEETING had a brutal trip last time, and was claimed by the red-hot Spawr barn.

4th race - STOP THE TALKING came off a long layoff to win impressively at Hollywood. She's a deserving favorite. A good gamble, however, might be REMEMBER DOROTHY, trained by the underrated Scott Hansen. This comebacker is being aggressively managed. She could easily have been put in a claiming race, but Hansen protects her by running in an allowance.

5th race - JUST RULER has not been seen since a poor try at Keeneland, and he's back in a claimer. He has to be used, but not with conviction. SPANISH RANCH is a threat to steal it. From his outside box, he's got to go, and that's the best thing for him.

6th race - At 8-1 on the morning line, LEADING LIGHT is an excellent gamble. She has won on this course, and comes off a deceptively good effort in a stakes race at Turf Paradise. DESIRAES MY CANDY is back with her friends for Spawr, who has been firing with everything he sends out this meet.

7th race - JEWELED PIRATE is the one to beat, but 5 1/2 furlongs might be a bit abrupt for her, so use a couple of others. SONG OF SUMMER has plenty of pace to set up her late run. PHAENNA might be the speed of the speed.

8th race - A dreadful race, where the sprinters with the best form, relatively speaking, might not have the styles, pedigrees, or ability to handle two turns. SHE'S THE BUZZ is taking a huge drop in class and should appreciate the distance. GAIL'S MELODY didn't run all that badly when going two turns, and she is one of the few who has raced this far.
