Tioga: Wally Hennessey adds his name to 11,000 career wins group
A few days after George Napolitano Jr. became the 12th North American driver to reach the milestone of 11,000 career victories, Hall of Famer Wally Hennessey pulled off the same feat on Saturday night at Tioga Downs to become the 13th member of that club.
Hennessey accomplished the feat in the third race on the card with Marquis Volo, a 9-year-old Credit Winner gelding trained by Jim McDonald. Marquis Volo took over the lead before the 58 3/5 half and never looked back, winning by a length and a quarter in 1:56.
After getting 11,000 out of the way, Hennessey was far from done, as he also had a natural hat trick in races eight, nine, and ten to give him a grand slam on the 11-race program.
