Tioga: St Somewhere swiftest in New York Sire Stakes for rookie pacing fillies

St Somewhere worked out a pocket trip, found room in the lane, and got up to win the fastest of three New York Sire Stakes splits Sunday afternoon at Tioga Downs, stopping the clock in 1:52 2/5, just two-fifths of a second off the track record.
Driven by Yannick Gingras in the third and final $36,566 split, St Somewhere dropped in the two-hole and followed Zero Tolerance (David Miller) through fractions of 27 4/5, 56 3/5, and 1:25. When first-up challenger So Awesome (Tim Tetrick) faded off the final bend, Gingras had clearance to come to the outside with St Somewhere, and she would get around Zero Tolerance late, winning by a neck. Money Shot Hanover (Tyler Buter) was the third-place finisher.
This was the second time St Somewhere and Zero Tolerance had finished first and second in the same race; the first time being when Zero Tolerance topped St Somewhere in a 1:51 3/5 maiden race on June 29 at the Meadowlands.
Ron Burke trains the victorious daughter of American Ideal for owners Burke Racing Stable LLC., Phil Collura, J&T Silva- Purnel & Libby, and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. She is now two-for-three in the win column, and she has now earned $47,783. Bred by Crawford Farms LLC., St Somewhere was a $55,000 buy at the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale and is the second foal out of the Somebeachsomewhere mare Somstreetsomwhere (1:52 4/5, $139,765). St Somewhere was the 2-5 favorite and returned $2.90 to win.
Back in the first $35,866 flight, it would be heavy favorite Prescient Beauty (Doug McNair) delivering in a 1:54 1/5 clocking. She chopped out fractions of 28 1/5, 57 1/5, and 1:25 3/5 and appeared on her way to an easy win when she opened up late on the far turn. She got lonely in the lane, though, and Crazy Cute (Jim Morrill Jr.) charged at her up the inside, but Prescient Beauty found the wire a quarter of a length to the good. Ladybeluckytonite (Gingras) collected third.
"She's bred to be a nice filly, and she seems like she is a nice filly," said the winning driver. "She's done everything so far, just got a little sleepy down by the wire, but still got the job done. Just hoping she keeps getting a lot better. I think she's probably better off cover, but being a short field, she got things her own way, and it worked out."
Prescient Beauty, a daughter of Art Major, is trained by Gregg McNair for owner/breeder Jim Avritt Sr. She has won both of her career starts, and she has now earned $23,253. Prescient Beauty is out of the Jate Lobell mare Precious Beauty (1:53 3/5, $112,842), making Prescient Beauty a full sister to Precocious Beauty (1:50 1/5, $838,004) and a three-quarter sister to Sportswriter (Artsplace, 1:48 3/5, $1,566,460. Prescient Beauty was the 2-5 choice and paid $2.80 to win.
The lone upsetter of the day was Boogie Roll (Buter), who came on in the lane from second-over and got up to win by a quarter of a length in 1:54 at odds of 12-1. Gia's Surreal (McNair), who had cleared to command from first-up going to the 1:25 3/5 three-quarters, was the runner-up, and public choice JK American Beauty (Gingras), who got caught in the pocket behind retreating pace-setter Sun Viser (Tim Tetrick) in the backstretch, had to settle for third after finding room and rallying up the cones in the lane.
"It was her first lifetime start, and obviously with the eight-hole, you're kind of behind the eight-ball," Buter said about Boogie Roll's start in the sire stakes on July 6 at Yonkers. "You've got to teach them a little bit, and she got home really good there. She got a chance to race today and proved she could go with these.
"I defintely felt like I had a lot of horse at the top of stretch. As soon as she cleared, I asked her to go a little bit, and she took off."
Buzzy Sholty trains Boogie Roll, a filly by Roll With Joe, for owners Joe Lee, Diamond Pride LLC., Sholty Racing LLC., and Irwin Goldfarb. Bred by Winbak Farm, Boogie Roll was a $25,000 acquisition at the Standardbred Horse Sale, and she is out of the Armbro Mackintosh mare Boogie Woogie Flu (1:54 2/5, $39,454). This makes Boogie Roll a half-sister to the likes of Dragon Fever (Dragon Again, 1:51, $223,176), and the dam is a half-sister to millionaire Mini Me (Incredible Finale, 1:49). Boogie Roll returned $27.40 to win.
