Tioga: Shartin dominant in Artiscape

Shartin led throughout and won Sunday's $129,000 Artiscape for pacing mares at Tioga Downs in 1:48 4/5, just missing the track record for a pacing mare by a fifth of a second. It was also her third consecutive stakes victory, joining triumphs in the Clara Barton and Lady Liberty.
Tim Tetrick hustled Shartin right to the top from post two, and she was unchallenged through fractions of 26 4/5, 55 1/5, and 1:21 2/5. That 26 1/5 third quarter dashed the hopes of those behind her, and Shartin closed things out with a 27 2/5 final kicker, downing Stonebridge Soul (Corey Callahan) by a length and three-quarters. Tall Drink Hanover (David Miller) had some late pace to get up for third, with Major Occasion (Dexter Dunn) fourth and Soho Burning Love (Jordan Stratton) fifth.
A 7-year-old New Zealand import by Tintin In America, Shartin is trained by Jim King Jr. for owners Richard Poillucci, Jo Ann Looney-King, and Tim Tetrick LLC. This was her 46th career victory, and she has now pocketed $2,395,339. The 1-9 favorite, Shartin paid $2.30 to win.
