Tioga: Mike Merton reaches 4,000 career wins milestone

Fred J. Brown Mike Merton celebrates his 4,000th career victory
Driver Mike Merton won Sunday evening's second race at Tioga Downs with Gaston Lareau-trained Solo Story to give him his 4,000th career victory.
After getting away in fourth, Merton put Solo Story in motion first-over before the half, and he was able to wear down and go by pace-setter Furious Beach (Joseph Chindano Jr.) en route to winning by a length and a quarter in 1:53.
A former leading driver at Tioga Downs, Merton has also been the champion at Monticello Raceway, and he's currently leading the standings at that oval in 2021, as well. Merton has been active since 1987 and his drives have earned over $14.8 million.
