Tioga Downs: Savage Cindy, Liberty Style prevail in New York Sire Stakes
?q=100)
Two New York Sire Stakes divisions for rookie pacing fillies were the marquee races on Sunday afternoon at Tioga Downs.
In the first grouping, which went for a purse of $54,500, Odds On Enigma (Matt Kakaley) and Surreal Spirit (Leon Bailey) clashed for the top spot after firing out, but Odds On Enigma managed to gain control in a 26 3/5 quarter as Surreal Spirit backed off and ducked into third. Kakaley then slammed on the brakes in the second panel to get to the half in just 56 3/5.
Surreal Spirit came with another attack past the half, and this time she got around Odds On Enigma to hit the front coming to the 1:25 three-quarters. After she hit the point, Surreal Spirit got separation on the others, but it wasn't enough, as Savage Cindy (Tyler Buter), who followed along in second and third, tipped out on the final bend and had enough time to chase down and pass Surreal Spirit, prevailing by a length and a quarter in 1:54. Party Pumps (Braxten Boyd) got third.
Savage Cindy, a Huntsville filly, is trained by Ed Hart for owner/breeder Scarlett Stables LLC. She broke her maiden in her third chance, has now earned $43,018 and paid $9.40 to win.

Liberty Style (Jason Bartlett) took the other $55,500 split in 1:52 1/5 after she led through fractions of 27 2/5, 56 4/5 and 1:24 3/5. Odds On Monetary (Kakaley) was second, 6 1/4 lengths behind the winner and Brooklyn Bombshell (Jordan Stratton) finished third.
A daughter of American Ideal bred by Dr. Stephen Dey III, Liberty Style is trained and co-owned by Andrew Stafford with Bonnie Benson. Liberty Style has won half of her outings, has pocketed $86,625 and returned $11.60 to win.
