Tioga: Dee's Red Delicous rules in NY Sire Stakes

Dee's Red Delicous, who tied the track record for a 2-year-old gelding trotter at Tioga Downs the last time he was at that track, was victorious again over that five-eighths-mile oval on Sunday afternoon in a $104,400 New York Sire Stakes event. The final time was 1:56 2/5.
Credit Con (Tyler Buter) was the leader at the 28 2/5 opening quarter and 59 second half, but Dee's Red Delicous (Corey Callahan) moved first-over from third and was able to clear to the top before the 1:27 2/5 three-quarters. After Dee's Red Delicous took control, Unwritten Chapter (Wally Hennessey) was left first-up, and he would take a run at the new leader around the far turn and through the lane. Dee's Red Delicous was too good, though, staying in front and winning by two lengths. Unwritten Chapter held second over Steel (Andy Miller).
Bruce Saunders trains Dee's Red Delicous, a gelded son of Credit Winner, for owner Joseph Martinelli Sr. Dee's Red Delicous now has three wins, a second, and a third from six attempts, and he pushed his earnings to $104,544. Dee's Red Delicous, who sold for $37,000 at last year's Standardbred Horse Sale, was bred by Sherri Meirs and Steve Organ and is out of the SJ's Caviar mare Apple Plush (1:55 3/5, $55,971), a full sister to Likeabatoutahell (1:51 3/5, $1,035,643). The 3-5 favorite, Dee's Red Delicous paid $3.20 to win.
