Tioga: Beach Rules registers track record in W.N. Reynolds Memorial

Beach Rules clocked a 1:50 3/5 mile to knock a fifth of a second off Twin B Joe Fresh's prior track record in winning her W.N. Reynolds Memorial test for 2-year-old filly pacers on Friday night at Tioga Downs.

Driven by Jason Bartlett in the $59,600 race, Beach Rules left from post six and pressed on two-wide to take the lead away from fellow Linda Toscano trainee Allegra Hanover (Greg Merton) after the 27 second opening quarter. Beach Rules maintained command at the 56 2/5 half and then rebuffed a first-over attack from Gigglingonthebeach (Braxten Boyd) to three-quarters in 1:23 1/5 and onto the last turn. Gigglingonthebeach was put away for good before they turned for home, and Beach Rules drew off to prevail by 8 3/4 lengths. Gigglingonthebeach wound up second and Odds On You (Jordan Stratton) got third.

Beach Rules, by Sweet Lou, is a homebred for Purple Haze Stables LLC. and Conrad Zurich. She has a record of 3-1-1 from six starts, has earned $75,999 and paid $2.70 to win.

Bartlett also took a $38,500 2-year-old W.N. Reynolds male pace with Twisted Destiny (by Bettor's Wish and bred by co-owner Let It Ride Stables Inc. with Docs Farm Inc. and Dana Parham, paid $2.40 to win) in 1:51 4/5 for trainer Chris Ryder and co-owners Odds On Racing, Alberg Racing and Enviro Stables Ltd.

Trainer Marcus Melander won three of the Reynolds races for trotters. Go Boom (by Muscle Hill and bred by Windsong Stable) took his $34,050 test for 2-year-old colts and geldings in 1:57 3/5 with Mattias Melander in the bike for owners Amg Stable Inc., Mantorp LLC., Heights Stable and Fredrik Nielsen, New York Sire Stakes champion Variegated (by Chapter Seven, bred by Order By Stable Ab, paid $2.50 to win) captured his $33,500 flight for 2-year-old colts and geldings in 1:56 3/5 with Braxten Boyd in the bike for owner S R F Stable and Mimosatomartini S (by Gimpanzee, bred by owner Courant Inc., paid $6.40 to win) took a $27,967 2-year-old filly trot in 1:57 with Mattias Melander at the controls.

Boyd also guided Manolete to a 1:52 2/5 triumph in his $38,500 contest for 2-year-old male pacers. Bred by The Ok Corral, the Cattlewash colt is trained by Bruce Saunders for owners M And L Of Delaware LLC and M & M Harness Racing LLC.

Pennsylvania Sire Stakes champion Shes A Shoe In (Mark MacDonald) bagged her $28,467 Reynolds rumble for 2-year-old filly trotters on the engine in 1:55 3/5 for driver Mark MacDonald, trainer/co-owner Ray Schnittker and co-owner Ma3 Racing Stable. The Steve Jones-bred by Greenshoe returned $7.10 to win. Cloudy Bay Hanover (by Bar Hopping, bred by Hanover Shoe Farms, paid $10.60 to win) broke her maiden in 1:58 in her $27,967 Reynolds division for rookie trotting fillies with Johathan Ahle driving for trainer Noel Daley and owners Allister Stables LLC., Joe Sbrocco & Jaf Racing, Country Club Acres Inc and Don Latore.
