Tioga: Archon graduates from maiden to New York Sire Stakes winner
:quality(75))
Archon scored his first lifetime win in a $112,100 New York Sire Stakes event for 2-year-old male trotters on Sunday afternoon at Tioga Downs.
With trainer Dan Daley in the bike, Archon led to the 28 second quarter, then yielded to sit behind Hypersonic (Ake Svanstedt) on the way to the 57 1/5 half. With Hypersonic slowing past that marker, Daley moved back to the outside with Archon, took control prior to the 1:26 three-quarters, and remained clear from there to the wire, defeating Uncle Rob (Andy Miller) by 2 1/2 lengths. Bigtime Chapter (Mattias Melander) came in third.
A Chapter Seven colt bred by Lina Alm, Archon is owned by James Crawford IV, Timothy Drag and Rich Preziotti. He broke his maiden in his fifth chance, has earned $85,210 and paid $13.20 to win as a 5-1 shot.
