Tina Marie Bond elected as president of NTHA
Tina Marie Bond, a horse owner, the president of the New York Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association, and the wife of trainer H. James Bond, was elected president of the National Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association at the organization’s annual meeting in Florida this week.
Bond, who was elected president of the New York THA last year, is the first woman to head the National THA, which was established in 1994. The organization has had four presidents in its history.
With her husband, Bond co-owns and co-manages Song Hill Thoroughbreds, a 100-acre farm in Stillwater, N.Y. She is a graduate of the Bryant and Stratton Business Institute, and has been involved in the Thoroughbred industry full-time for 30 years.
“[The] THA is at the forefront of collaborative decision-making and policy implementation on issues such as racehorse aftercare, equine safety and welfare, and protecting the integrity of our sport,” Bond said, in a release. “I look forward to leading the organization as it addresses the challenges that horsemen and women face on local, regional, and national levels.”
The THA includes chapters in New York, Illinois, New Jersey, Florida, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Maryland.
Also at the annual meeting, Chris Block, the president of the Illinois THA, and David Richardson, the executive director of the Maryland THA, were elected as Vice Presidents. Michael Musto, the executive director of the New Jersey THA was elected treasurer, and Bessie Gruwell, executive director of the Delaware THA, was elected secretary.
