Timonium: McMahon, Acosta top standings at 10-day meet

Trainer Hugh McMahon repeated as leading trainer and jockey J.D. Acosta topped the rider standings for the fourth time since 2007 during the 10-day race meeting at Timonium that ended on Labor Day.

McMahon saddled nine winners, including three on closing day. He also won a $4,000 bonus for most in-the-money finishes and most starters at the meet. Scott Lake won with 5 of his 9 starters to finish second.

Acosta rode 16 winners to add to riding titles he won at Timonium in 2007, 2008, and 2010. Travis Dunkelberger finished second with 10 wins. Jonathan Joyce rode four winners on closing day to take third with 8 wins.

Live racing in Maryland moves to Laurel Park on Sept. 19. Opening weekend on Sept. 21 features the Fall Festival of Racing, including five stakes on turf and the $350,000 Frank De Francis Memorial Dash on the main track.
