TimeformUS Saratoga Horses in Focus for Friday, Aug. 17, 2018
Race 2:
Land Mine (#5)
Ran well in her return from the layoff last time despite being disadvantage by a speed-favoring track that helped the winner.
Projects to sit a great trip stalking the two speeds, who figure to hook up at some point.
Is one of the few fillies in this field who wants every bit of the 1 1/8-mile distance.
3-1 on ML
Race 6:
Southern Gal (#7)
Showed promise in both of her turf starts last year and has a right to be better with added maturity.
Should appreciate the return to sprinting since her best half-sibling was turf sprinter First Charmer.
DRF Formulator Fact: Over the past five years, Mark Casse is 16 for 70 (23 percent, $2.51 ROI) off layoffs of 180 days or more in turf sprints (five to seven furlongs).
6-1 on ML
Race 9:
Chase Greatness (#11)
Ran his best dirt race over a sloppy, sealed track, which is sometimes indicative of turf ability.
Is bred to handle grass as a son of More Than Ready and a half-brother to turf stakes-placed Chubby Star.
It’s a good sign to see a live rider like Jose Ortiz keep the mount for these connections.
12-1 on ML
