As multiple Grade 1 winner Chancer McPatrick struck a pose for breeders at a November open house, the Spendthrift stallion sales team revealed that the farm was the underbidder on the colt when he sold as a juvenile. At the end of the day, Chancer McPatrick comes to Spendthrift as the first son of the exciting young sire McKinzie to stand at stud. Chancer McPatrick was a $725,000 purchase at the 2024 Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s spring sale and went on to race for Flanagan Racing. He was a precocious juvenile, winning his first three starts, including the Grade 1 Hopeful and Grade 1 Champagne, before finishing sixth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. Chancer McPatrick won once from his six starts this year, taking the Curlin Stakes at Saratoga. His multiple graded stakes placings included a solid third in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile behind Nysos and champion Citizen Bull.
