Time and Motion on fence for Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf

LEXINGTON, Ky. – For now, Time and Motion will remain under consideration for the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf following her stirring victory Saturday in the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at Keeneland.
Trainer Jimmy Toner said Monday from New York that he is “torn” about whether to proceed to Santa Anita for the Nov. 5 Filly and Mare Turf with Time and Motion, who prevailed in a tight three-way photo over Harmonize and Hawksmoor in the QE II.
“Half of me says yes, and the other half says no,” said Toner.
The win was a record sixth in the QE II for the Darby Dan Farm connections of John Phillips and his family.
“I’ll have to hash things out with John,” said Toner. “I’d hate to have to make a firm decision the next day or two. I’d like to see how she does once we get her back to the track.”
Pre-entries for all Breeders’ Cup races are due next Monday.

Meanwhile, the Grade 2 Mrs. Revere for 3-year-old fillies Nov. 25 at Churchill Downs looms as a possible season-ending start for some of those defeated in the QE II. That won’t be the case for Catch a Glimpse, who faded to seventh of eight after leading to the top of the stretch. It was an uncharacteristically poor effort from a filly who won her first eight turf races before being narrowly beaten by Time and Motion in the Aug. 21 Lake Placid at Saratoga.
“I imagine she’s done for the year,” said David Carroll, the Keeneland-based assistant to trainer Mark Casse. “She came out of it fine, but obviously that wasn’t her. She’ll probably go to Ocala before too long and get some time off and regroup.”
Carroll recalled how Tepin finished eighth in her final start as a 3-year-old, then became a major force in the filly-and-mare turf division for Casse upon her return.
“Hopefully, the same sort of thing will happen with this filly,” he said.
