Tijori taking a break

DEL MAR, Calif. – Tijori won an early season maiden race for 2-year-old fillies as if she was going to be one of the leaders of the division this year, but a subsequent trip to New York did not work out as well as hoped, and she did not train satisfactorily since arriving at Del Mar, so she has been turned out for a freshening, trainer Simon Callaghan said.
“She’s not working quite like she was,” Callaghan said. “Whether it’s the deeper track, we don’t know. We checked her over and she’s fine. But we thought it best to give her some time on the farm. She just wasn’t working the way she was back at Santa Anita.”
Tijori, by Will Take Charge, won her debut May 11 at Santa Anita by more than three lengths going 4 1/2 furlongs, but then was fourth as the even-money favorite in the Astoria on June 7 at Belmont Park. Callaghan trains her for Kaleem Shah. They have an able replacement for the division in Bellafina, who won the Sorrento Stakes last Sunday.
